Frequently Asked Questions...
Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith? If you had to pick one to be on your team?
I get this arguement at work a lot. I always say Sanders was a better runner but Emmitt was the better running back. If the game was on the line and you needed 3 yards to seal the game I think you would much rather have Smith. Sanders got lots of yards but I don't think you could ever depend on him to get the first down when needed.
Answer:
Great question. Both these guys are superstars because of superlative ability. Sanders unfortunately played for bad teams his entire pro career in Detroit. Smith of course played with Super Bowl championship teams in Dallas. My comment is that Emmitt was a clutch performer who could get the tough 1-2 yard gain on 4th down. He had amazing speed and elusiveness but also ran over people more than Barry did. Barry was like a ballet dancer on the field at times who could turn 180 degrees in a flash and often ran from sideline to sideline on the same running play. It is unfair in many ways to compare these two great backs since Barry played for such poor teams.
