Discover The Panama Canal With Great Cruise Deals
If you’ve never seen the Panama Canal, it’s well worth taking the trip to experience this maritime marvel, and what was one of the world’s most difficult engineering undertakings. The canal, at just short of fifty miles long, joins the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, allowing ships to pass through. You can find all sorts of great cruise deals which will see you experience a passage through this amazing channel.
Planning for the Panama Canal began in the 1500s, and construction began in the 1880s by the French, but after many workers dies, they downed tools, and it was restarted by the US. Thanks to all the efforts, ships can now take this important journey, and if you take a cruise which does so, you can even cruise and stay at some of the most fascinating ports at either end.
If you want to see the famous Bridge of Americas, you should opt for cruises which travel through the Panama Canal from the Pacific Ocean. Built in 1962, this road bridge marks the entrance to the canal at the Pacific end, and is the only static bridge connecting north and South America. This stretch of road was originally built during the Second World War as a way to get supplies to remote areas, and is now part of the longest drivable highway in the world.
Many cruises which take in the Panama canal will also visit Fort Lauderdale in Florida. Dubbed by visitors and locals as America's Venice, Fort Lauderdale is the ideal starting point for your Panama cruise, as the city is home to a massive system of canals itself. This is also a great spot to do some lazing on the beach, which no cruise holiday would be complete without.
