Maze Agency
Emptying Your Closets For The Benefit Of Others
Is your house slowly being taken over by your possessions? Do you have to carefully navigate your way along narrow footpaths between ominously looming heaps of clothing, books, and boxes full of things that you no longer remember packing? Or are you planning on moving to a smaller, or even larger, home and are horrified by the heaps of miscellaneous objects you have found stuffed in the backs of your closets and cupboards?
If it is, then you are not the only one. Millions of people are loathe to part with the mountains of things that they have accumulated over the years. Sometimes, it's for sentimental reasons, or simply because you believe getting rid of something will offend the person who gave it to you. But if you don't like cooking, and can barely boil water, why keep the fancy knife set you were given as a wedding present? The person who gave it to you has probably figured out by now that you're not using it. The same goes for those old clothes that you keep hoping you will fit back into. Even if you could, do you really want to embarrass your kids by being seen running around in 1980's fashions?
Why not clear out the clutter by giving it away to someone who needs it and can finally put it to the use for which it was intended? It's a shame to let perfectly good items become outmoded and outdated without ever once being used. There are many charitable organizations that are just waiting to find new homes for your old goods.
Is it really just another roasting pan? It may be to you, but to a woman who has had to take shelter in a home for battered women, it might just be the first step on the long road to building a new and better life for herself and her children. Contact a local social service center and ask them if they could make use of some of things that you are not using. They will be happy to let you know what they are in desperate need of at the moment.
Community centers, churches, and other places where people gather to socialize over a cup of coffee and biscuits would love to have your old 4 cup coffee maker. When you're hosting thirty people at a time, you can never have too many.
Refugees centers and women's shelters often need old children's toys, clothes, books, household items and just about anything else that they can get their hands on. Shelters for the homeless and organizations working with street kids can also benefit from your generosity.
Why not let others benefit from the forgotten treasures you no longer want, need, or even remember that you have? The next time you get fed up with all the junk you have accumulated over the years, and want to throw it all out, do it. There are many groups and organizations that can put it into the hands of those who really needs it.
